Wonderful collage and mixed-media art. A long poem discussing Harlem as a place where anyone can succeed regardless of the color of their skin.

Review:

What did I just read? First he's kidnapped from Africa by his "friend", the man in the yellow hat, then he falls overboard in a boat, then he calls the fire department by accident and is THROWN IN JAIL, then he walks on powerlines to escape and flies with some balloons.

Review:

Wow, not even a stepmother but their actual mother leaves them in the woods. This illustrator can't draw children's faces. Traditional tale, except when the children leave the cottage they loot it of a bunch of precious jewels, and by the time they return home their evil mother has died.

Written in dialect. Comes out better than the Duke Ellington book. About a young girl and her family going to pick cotton.

It Could Always Be Worse

Review:

Yiddish folk tale. Interesting moral. A man has a huge family cramped and fighting in a small house and complains to the rabbi, who tells him to keep bringing larger and larger animals inside with the family. At the end, when he tells him to let the animals back out again, the house seems so roomy that they are happy.

Wordless book. A bird in a museum flying by dino skeletons goes back in time, gets eaten by a dinosaur, but then forward so it's a skeleton again.
