meh

Decent book that might inspire dance moves.

It's cute, but there's not really much to it. It kind of sounds like lyrics to a song, all about moving. Younger kids would like this book.

Is it racist to say that Chinese people fly kites?

You would think that he would speak in perfect English, because it takes place in China, and they certainly wouldn't be speaking to each other in English. That's kind of a weird convention, but I'm not sure whether it's racist. It's just weird.

The bicycle thief joke, but about wagons.

It's kind of an old story, but personalized in this version. Strangely, in a book about seeing small details, there's a couple of typos. There's not much to it.

Don't be stuck up. Or, anyone can be fooled.

Baby. Seriously. Stop beeping.

I guess it's for a little, little, kid. But it is boring. So boring. It doesn't have very many words, but they're very repetitive.

Old Horny, king of the forest.

A series of prose poems about two baby deer growing up. It's pretty factual. For the most part the deer don't have that many human-like characteristics.

Message

Deer are cool.

Why animals?

There's no discernible moral to it. There's no obvious reason that they chose to illustrate animals. There's no point they seem to be making. It's just weird.

The alphabet is everywhere.

It's interesting, but not enough to look at more than once, as with many alphabet books. There's nothing further to it.

All babies want love.

The multiculturalism is almost Caldecott-bait. It's like it was specifically written to appeal to givers of children's book awards. It's not a bad message, actually, probably not a message at all.

Lackluster poems for every month.

It's pretty stereotypical. Very American, with the Fourth of July, baseball, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and the obsession with Christmas in December. There's not really much to it, with no storyline or message.

Maybe just stop asking jerks for advice.

Basically, the message is, "Don't trust other people to give you advice, because they just want something for themselves." But if everyone acted that way, society would crumble.

Message

Everyone's in it for themselves.
